Where the Phuket Sunday market is
We recommend arriving at around 17:00–18:00. That way you see Phuket Old Town in daylight, walk its historic streets and then catch the moment the evening lights come on and the market is at its most atmospheric. It gets much busier later in the evening. If you want to stroll, take photos and browse the stalls without big crowds, arrive before the main evening rush.
PhukeTours24 tip: get to Old Town before sunset and save the Sunday Market for the end of your walk. That way you see both daytime and evening Phuket Town in one go.
What to try at Phuket Sunday Market
Food is one of the main reasons to come to the Sunday market. You can try familiar Thai street food as well as dishes typical of southern Thailand. The street is lined with dozens of small stalls, so rather than buying everything in one place, walk the whole market and try several different dishes.
Thai street food
- grilled meat and chicken;
- seafood;
- Thai noodles;
- skewers and small snacks;
- local dishes of southern Thailand;
- fresh fruit;
- fruit drinks.
Desserts and drinks
Look out for Thai sweets, ice cream, coconut desserts and fruit drinks. If you have hardly tried Thai street food before, the Sunday Market is a good place to start: portions are often small, so you can try several things in one evening.
What you can buy at the market
Sunday Walking Street is not just about food. The market sells souvenirs, clothes, jewellery, small decorative items, local crafts, textiles and all kinds of Phuket-themed goods. The local products and small handmade shops are especially interesting — they suit the atmosphere of the historic district well.
How much money to bring to the Sunday Market
Entry to the market is free. You only need money for food, drinks and shopping. A normal stroll with a few street-food dishes does not take a big budget. It is best to carry some cash in baht and small notes — that makes paying at the small stalls easier.
